UNIX PC, 1985

• In 1985, AT&T marketed Convergent Technologies PC. This Motorola 68K-based personal computer ran UNIX System V release 2 and had one of the first GUI interfaces.  With a 1200 bps modem, the UNIX PC had features to manage a personal telephone.

• At a technical presentation at Bell Labs in 1986 in Columbus, Horton won a UNIX PC (similar to this one) as a door prize.  The computer was named stargate, installed in Horton’s basement, and became the administrative hub for Stargate Information Services.
